Why I work with desks rather than barbells

Most of the pain I see does not come from doing something demanding. It comes from doing nothing, in the same position, for years. A chair holds the hip flexors short and the glutes quiet. A monitor draws the head forward until the upper back rounds to meet it. The body adapts to whatever you ask of it most often, and for many people that is sitting.

Corrective exercise is the unglamorous half of fitness. You lengthen what is overactive, you wake up what is underactive, and you keep at it until the pattern changes. It needs no equipment and no gym. It needs someone watching who knows what to look for.

I also explain everything. Each session, I will tell you which muscle we are targeting, where you should feel it, and how it connects to the thing that has been bothering you. That is the part people remember six months later, and the part that keeps them going.

I speak from the same chair. I have spent most of my life working at a computer, and I also love gaming. These movements are what allow me to keep doing that without paying for it. Maintaining a healthy posture is a practice I keep up myself, not a theory I hand to clients.
